The city of Harvard will be working very hard on the streetscape construction this summer. They have developed a beautiful plan, and will be overseeing every step in the construction.
In talking with many communities around the country that have gone through a similar project, one word has always been connected with the businesses surviving the interruption - COMMUNICATION! That is why Harvard Main Street will be taking the lead on a communication plan for the businesses and community residents. We feel it is critical that the businesses know not only the initial schedule, but they are constantly kept up to date with schedule changes and developments so they can communicate those with their customers. We will also be working with the businesses to help them develop marketing plans to keep their customers coming in throughout the summer.
We have developed printed materials, e-mail and fax communication tools, and a website to help communicate the construction issues to the business owners and community residents. We have enclosed some preliminary materials for your review. Printed materials will be distributed to businesses throughout Harvard, at Harvard Milk Days craft show and during the Harvard Milk Days weekend, and at Harvard’s Country Fair in June. E-mail and fax updates will be sent to the business owners and community residents who register for them on a weekly basis, and the website will be promoted throughout the project and up to six months after completion.
