Construction is on Schedule!
Construction has moved back up to Front St. along the east side of Ayer Street. A majority of the construction on the west side of Ayer Street is complete. The intersection of Ayer and Sumner is under construction on the east side leaving one lane open on Ayer Street. Construction around Harmilda at 5-corners should be done shortly. (Click here for pictures!)

The recent rains have set the construction back a few days, but the crew is still on schedule to finish by the end of October.

Many of the sidewalks are receiving an extra layer of sealer to protect them from the iodine in the salt used in winter. The extra protection will help the sidewalks look better and last longer.

Be sure to check out Ayer Street at night. The new streetlights make the downtown much brighter!

6/2008 - Ayer Street over the railroad tracks is now open.
Construction is continuing on the south south of the railroad tracks, watch for flaggers and construction vehicles. Weather permitting, this section should be done around June 30th.

5/2008 - Underground Work Beginning
4/8/08 - Bid accepted by Harvard City Council
4/03/08 - Bids due
3/9/08 - Bidding process open

The city of Harvard will be working very hard on the streetscape construction this summer. They have developed a beautiful plan, and will be overseeing every step in the construction.

In talking with many communities around the country that have gone through a similar project, one word has always been connected with the businesses surviving the interruption - COMMUNICATION! That is why Harvard Main Street will be taking the lead on a communication plan for the businesses and community residents. We feel it is critical that the businesses know not only the initial schedule, but they are constantly kept up to date with schedule changes and developments so they can communicate those with their customers. We will also be working with the businesses to help them develop marketing plans to keep their customers coming in throughout the summer.

We have developed printed materials, e-mail and fax communication tools, and a website to help communicate the construction issues to the business owners and community residents. We have enclosed some preliminary materials for your review. Printed materials will be distributed to businesses throughout Harvard, at Harvard Milk Days craft show and during the Harvard Milk Days weekend, and at Harvard’s Country Fair in June. E-mail and fax updates will be sent to the business owners and community residents who register for them on a weekly basis, and the website will be promoted throughout the project and up to six months after completion.

We are offering the following sponsorship opportunities for the streetscape communication plan.

Plan Sponsor - Ten Available	$200	Will include a two-line listing of your name, address, and phone number, e-mail address or website information on the one-third page flyers (minimum 4000), on the inside cover of each Construction Toolkit Booklet (minimum 150), on each e-mail or fax communication, and on the website.
